ABOUT LAOS

In the North luxurious landscapes and rice plateau on the mountain sides rise Luang Prabang, a quiet little town at the Mekong river banks.This place is the landmark of Buddhism in the country.

VIENTIANE

Vientiane, the capital of Laos is located in an area where landscapes vary between flat and fertile plains of  the Mekong valley and the limestone mountains in the northwestern part.

The countryside around the city is a wonderfully lucius and patchworked with rice paddies, tropical fruits trees and jungle dotted with picturesque villages. The traditional architecture of the city and its temples attracts numerous tourists.

The city of Vientiane was built on the curve of the Mekong river during the XVIth century. The old part of Vientiane is attractive and very interesting, where ancient temples, museums, parks and monuments are all other the place. Vientiane is also known by its peaceful atmosphere and its old colonial villas that makes of this city a major tourist attraction worldwide.



PAKSÉ

Located in the Champassak region in  Southern Laos, Pakse is the capital and is famous for producing one of the best Arabica coffees in the world. Pakse is also famous for its orchids, its textile products and traditional weavings, unique of Lao's ethnic.

Paksé city was founded in 1905 by the French. This city is very interesting because of its colonial style buildings and especially the grandiose building of Chinese Society (Franco-Chinese Style), the huge market Talat Dao Heung and giant temples (Wat Luang, Wat Tham Fai).

Not far from the city there is The Vat Phou Temple (Wat Phu Champasak) which was recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. It attracts numerous tourists each year thanks to its Khmer's architecture.

LUANG PRABANG

Located in the north of Laos, Luang Prabang is approximately 360 km from Vientiane.

Classified as UNESCO World heritage in 1995, the city is known to be the headquarter of Lao culture because of its numerous monasteries, temples, historical monuments, etc.

Besides tourism its main sources of income are agriculture (rice, corn, tabacco, coton and coffee) and breeding (cows, buffaloes, pigs, goats, sheeps, poultry, etc.)

There are a dozen ethnic minorities living in the area from which the more represented are the Khmus and the H’mongs.

We can observe two different seasons: The dry and the rainy season. The annual average is of 26ºC.

Weather:

Northern Laos:

Oct -April: 20 to 30°C, dry. Cool weather from December to February: 12 to 24°C.

May -Sept: 25 to 35°C, occasional showers. Rainy period from July to August: 30 to 38°C.

Note: Be careful on the mountain roads that become slippery in July and August.

Southern Laos:

All year: 20 to30°C.

June- August: occasional showers.

Note: The showers are not frequent and heavy enough to disturb the visits during the rainy season.
