NORTH VIETNAM TREKKING - 10 DAYS / 08 NIGHTS (VI-TR04)

  • The Must-Sees

In the Northern mountains, you will be amazed by the mind-blowing rice terrace landscapes. You will meet the various and diverse ethnic groups in their authentic villages to know more about their customs and their way of life. You will trek in these magnificent mountains where few tourists venture. To be in the heart of this nature and close to local population, you will stay at Pan Hou Ecolodge, hidden in the mountain, and you will experience homestays.

In the North, you will visit the wonderful Hanoi, the only city of this trip. Another highlight of this region is Cai Be National Park, its amazing nature and especially its waterfalls.

 

  • What will you do during your trip?

During the trip, you will have the opportunity to taste local delicacies, meals made by your Vietnamese hosts (homestay). You will meet different ethnic minorities in the northern Vietnamese mountains and visit several villages known for their traditional handcraft but also for their customs. To meet them, you will have to hike in the different valleys from one village to another. The ethnic minorities families will invite you to stay in their home. During your trek, you will witness the amazing landscapes the region offers you.

For you, we have chosen nice hotels downtown as well as nice homestays in warm families. During the tour, you will experience the bus, the small boats, and mostly trekking and walks in the villages.

We provide a national tour guide skilled in group management.

DAY 1 : YOUR CITY Flight HANOI

Departure at your expense to the airport of departure.
You will go through the check-in formalities and will board on a flight towards HANOI. Dinner and night on board.

DAY 2 : HANOI

Welcome by your tour-guide and transfer towards your hotel. Free time in order to recover from your flight.
Sightseeing around Ba Dinh square. The Ho Chi Minh mausoleum from outside, the one pillar Pagoda famous for its original construction entirely in teak emerging from a pound. The Hoan Kiem lake, the city’s landmark holding the Ngoc Son temple and the The Huc Bridge. This tour will end in a magnificent colonial style house where you will be enjoying a welcoming dinner. Night at the hotel.

DAY 3 : HANOI / SAPA

Road towards the northern mountains via a brand new road. This spectacular road is surprising by its diversity of landscapes.
Road for a fascinating valley surrounded by mountains. Short trek in the heart of the mountain villages between the rice terraces in areas still not touched by mass tourism. Warm encounter with the locals. Visit of one the villager’s houses. Tea tasting in that house. 
Road to Sapa. Evening walk in this charming little mountain town, the neighborhood of businesses, the stoned church… Diner at your expense. Night at the hotel.

DAY 4 : TREKKING IN NAM HO VALLEY

Transfer towards Muong Hum for base camp. Start trekking follow the large path from our base for 20 minutes up steep hill side of Den Thang Mountain. Turn to a large earthen path running on high elevation of the mountain side, getting through farm land and some small hamlets of the Hmong peoples of fascinating panorama of the Nam Ho Valley. Leave the large path and follow a narrow dirt track to come down to the dam at the bottom of the valley.
Enjoy picnic lunch on the rocks by the stream. Cross Nam Ho Stream, trekking along the narrow dirt track through terraced paddies and lush tea farms scattering on high side of Khu Chu Phin Mountain. Then the trail winds up and down between the forest and farmed land before arriving to Lang Moi Village of 40 Hmong families, meet hospitable Hmong before checking in home-stay. Freshen up, dinner with local dishes and stay overnight in a house of a Hmong family.

DAY 5 : TREKKING IN NAM PEN VALLEY

Start trekking along the dirt trail, sneaking through the stunning Nam Pen Valley to Ki Quan San Village of the White Hmong. You will meet the Hmong doing everyday works at home and on the fields. Then, follow a narrow paved path to Nam Pen Village hidden itself at the foot of Nhiu Co San Mountain. Pay visit to this isolated village before having lunch break.

Continue trekking along the narrow dirt trail through a piece of lush natural forest and arriving to a small hamlet of the Red Zao which is set on the top of the high mountain and overlooking down Nam Pen Valley. Trekking downhill through the well-organized village of the Red Zao named Ki Quan San Tren.
Visit to local homes, meet the Red Zao peoples for learning about their strong and unique culture and way of live.

Check in home-stay at about and free walk for the rest of the day to enjoy sunset.

Dinner with local dishes. Stay overnight in wooden house of a Red Zao family.

DAY 6 : TREKKING IN PIENG LAO VALLEY / SAPA

Breakfast at the homestay. Trekking from home-stay along large village path for nearly three hours around the prosperous Pieng Lao Valley, famous for its impressive terraced rice fields and is home to the Day ethnic peoples who live in some villages beautifully set along the Ta Loi Stream. Then follow the earthen path running along the stream to pass through the suspension bridge to Phin Pao Village of the Zao people. Explore this village before lunch break in a local home. Trekking, after lunch, along narrow dirt track which sneak among the terraced fields, cross the Ta Le Stream for an hour before winding uphill through Ta Le Village of the Red Zao to Sin Chai Village of the Ha Nhi ethnic. Pay visit to some house and meet the Ha Nhi peoples whose population is only 12,489 individual in Vietnam. Back to our base at Muong Hum Valley, take shower and transfer to Sapa via Ban Khoang and Ta Giang Phinh with some photo stops along the way. Arrive to Sapa chek in hotel. Dinner at your expense. Night at the hotel.

DAY 7 : SAPA / HOANG SU PHI

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit of Sapa’s local market. Road towards Hoang Su Phi. Long way with astonishing sceneries: terrace rice fields, streams, mountains, valleys, plum trees… A few photo stops along the way to enjoy the spectacular views. Lunch on the way.
Stop in Thong Nguyen village to walk around, warm encounters with the locals. Arrival at Pan Hou Ecolodge where you will spend the night, charming ecofriendly bungalows in heart of the mountain. Diner and night at the lodge.

DAY 8 : HOANG SU PHI

Breakfast at the lodge while enjoying the tranquility and the views that the mountain offers. Start of a day long trek (many trekking levels are available). Astonishing sceneries, terrace rice fields, tea plantations… Visit of the Nam Hong village inhabited by Red Dzao people. Lunch in a local house. Get back on the trails towards Nam Ai village to meet some members of the long dresses Dzao ethic minority. Late afternoon, road back to Pan Hou. Dinner and night at the lodge.

DAY 9 : HOANG SU PHI / BA BE

Breakfast at the lodge. Road towards Ba Be following a narrow mountain road. Many stops along the way to discover some local markets and enjoy the views. Arrival in Ba Be and visit of the Pac Ngoi village, home of the Tay ethnic minority living by fishing and agriculture. Get comfortable in a house on stilts with a view on the river flowing into Ba Be Lake. Lunch with the locals. Walking around the village to get to know the traditional way of life of the Tay’s, you can help them with the daily tasks to really get in touch with the place, unforgettable experience. Dinner and night in the host family.

DAY 10 : BA BE / HANOI

Breakfast with the host family. Transfer to Buoc Luom jetty to start your boat trop on the Ba Be Lake surrounded by the karstic mountains. The scenery is extraordinary, off the beaten track and very various, mountains, fields and jungle. The boat follows the Nang River and passes through the Puong cave before arriving to Dau Dang waterfall. Lunch along the way. End of the boat trip and road back towards Hanoi. Beautiful road off the main touristic path, the scenery will slowly change from mountain to the valley field with rice fields. Arrival in Hanoi and check-in at the hotel. Diner at your expense. Night at the hotel.
